JOSE-CARLOS MARIATEGUI (Lima, 1975)

Scientist (combined degree in Mathematics and Biology) and Media theorist. Has developed teaching and research activities, as well as published a variety of articles on art, science, technology, society and development. President of Alta Tecnología Andina (ATA), non-profit organization dedicated to the development and research of artistic and scientific theories in Latin America (www.ata.org.pe). Founder of the International Festival of Video and Electronic Art in Lima (1998 - 2003). Director of Memorial Museum Mariátegui (his grandfather and a Latin-American Marxist thinker) of the National Institute of Culture. Resident at the CICV Centre de Recherche Pierre Schaeffer Montbéliard Belfort (France, 1997-2002). Board Member of the Scientific Thought and Philosophy of Science Program, Cayetano Heredia University (Lima, 1995-2001). Teaches the course: “The virtual museum” at Ricardo Palma University Postgraduate Museology Program. Member of the National Commission of Culture, a High Level dependency of the President that proposed the cultural and scientific policy in Peru (2001-2002). Recent conferences include: Coloquio Internacional de Historia del Arte “Arte y ciencia” (UNAM, Guadalajara, 2000), Medi@terra Festival (Athens, 2000), ISEA 2000 Symposium (Paris, 2000), Emoçao art.ficial (Sao Paulo, 2002, 2004), Transmediale.03 (Berlin, 2003), Ars Electronica (Linz, 2004). Curator of several international exhibitions of media art, recently: Nueva/Vista: Videokunst aus Lateinamerica (ifa-Galeries, 2002-2003, Bonn, Berlin, Stuttgart). Member of the Cultural Diversity Committee of the Inter-Society for Electronic Arts (ISEA). Jury of the 13 Videobrasil (2001), Videoformes (2003) and the Central America Videoprize (2004). Has acted as member of the International Programming Committee (IPC) of ISEA 2002 (Japan) and of the International Advisory Board of Prix Ars Electronica 2004 and 2005. Currently acts as a node of Tester (www.e-tester.net) and as an ISEA 2006 Pacific Rim New Media Summit International Steering Committee member.


MIGUEL ZEGARRA (Lima, 1979)

Independent curator. Has carried out studies in History at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru. His projects as curator are marked by the exploration of the different representations of media and consumerism industry, as well as the possibilities of dynamics and mutations of the historical memory of art. Recent projects include: Armario PLK by Olga Engelmann (ARTCO Gallery, Lima, 2003), Necrología. El retorno de las huacas (no retornables), 1977 -2003 (Museo Pedro de Osma, Lima, 2003), Centro de Arte EGO (traveling Spanish project, Centro Cultural de España, Lima, 2003, www.centrodeartego.com), Soft Machine (ARTCO Gallery, 2005). Since 2004 he is curator of the International Festival of Video and Electronic Art in Lima (www.vae8.net) as a member of Realidad Visual (Art and New Media) (www.realidadvisual.org). Lives and works in Lima.
